![]() The recent robberies at One Stop were despicable, and are an unfortunate reminder that even within the safest County in the UK, atrocities like this still occur. ![]() Local Campaigners (l-r) Chris Ward, Sue Doughty, Cllr Tony Phillips & Steve Freeman At the recent PCSO presentation in the Council Chamber, Cllr Tony Phillips raised the issue of the availability of police officers at peak times. He stressed that far too often, if an emergency occurs in Onslow the response time is slower because all the police resources are being used up in the town centre. We are committed to your safety - we proposed extra CCTV to the Tory Council Executive, and each time we did, it was rejected. After it was accepted, the Tories chose to take credit for it. Our residents deserve better than this ineffective and deceptive local leadership. Cllr Tony Phillips spoke out in the Council Chamber after an Onslow resident was brutally beaten in the pathway separating Ashenden from Tesco, and leading to the railway bridge to Southway. In his speech, he mentioned the cost of such equipment, and emphasised "at what cost is a life?". The Tory Councillor responding to his speech mentioned that CCTV would not have stopped the crime occurring, contradicting the Tory campaigners in Onslow, who appear to agree with the use of CCTV. Your Lib Dem Campaigners Chris Ward, Steve Freeman, Cllr Tony Phillips and Parliamentary Spokesperson Sue Doughty are campaigning for CCTV to be installed in this pathway to prevent any further attacks happening. |
